The Library is opened from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

The Library of our College aims to provide information and curriculum-based knowledge for students from remote villages. Subject books related to all Majors are available for the needy students. Apart from imparting curriculum-based information. The Library also focuses on motivating the students for Competitive Examinations by conducting Motivation class through Mr.U.Saravanan, Block Development Officer, Nagapattinam and Kavalar Payirchi Maiyam and Agni TNPSC Payirchi Maiyam, Karuvappilankurichi since 2018. It encourages students’ Reading Habits by initiating different skills and activities through Dr. Kalam Reader’s Club in the year 2020.

Library is a Hub of collecting sources and information on wider range of varied subjects. As it serves as the Gateway to Knowledge and information, it plays a predominant role in motivating the students not only in Academics but also in shaping their professional careers, by organizing Training classes by inviting Experts from that field.

It is a Treasure-Hunt where heterogenous group can hunt for varieties of information and Knowledge. It is not just a place of accumulation of books on different genres, but it’s a place shaping one’s mind and personality.

Library is the soul of the Institution and it acquires, processes, preserves and disseminates information to the user-community with the motto of Empowering knowledge. The library has a prominent role to play in supporting higher education to fulfil the objectives of its Institution. College library is a collection of sources, services and the building in which it is housed. It provides access to various resources in order to support Teaching, Learning and Research activities.

General Rules and Regulations

All the students are sternly instructed to pursue the below mentioned rules for the smooth functioning of the library:

ID card is mandatory to enter into the library.
Sign in the register kept at the entrance counter before entering the library.
Perfect Silence should be maintained in the library.
Writing in, Marking or harming in any way, any belongings to the library is strictly forbidden.
If found any damage or defacement, the borrower will be responsible to replace a new one.
If lost the book, the borrower has to replace a new one, else pay triple the cost of the book.
Latest Periodicals, Project Report, Question Papers are not issuable. There are to be read inside the library only.
No louder discussion permitted inside the library.
Personal belongings not allowed inside the library.
Textbooks, printed materials and issued books are not allowed to be taken inside the library.
Mobile phones are strictly prohibited in the library.
Faculty can access the Lending service on all working days.

Services Rendered

Book Loan: – From the General Library books pertaining to different subjects and books for general reading are issued to students, and Staff from the issue counter. At present 2 books are permitted to PG students and 1 to UG students, which are to be returned or renewed within 15 days. Overdue charge of Rs.1/- is levied from defaulters. The number of books that can be kept by the Faculty and Non-Teaching Staff is as per Government Rules.
Classified Arrangement: – The books in the General Library are arranged in a classified order, according to Dewey Decimal Classification. The index for almost all subjects is provided as bay guides in all the stack area.
Library Extension Services: –Government Arts College Library is regularly conducting extension activities (Librarian Day, Library Week Celebration), Seminars on relevant topics, Orientation Programmes to freshers.

Best Library User Award

To promote maximum and proper utilization of library facilities and services, the library gives away “Best Library User Award” to the students every year. Best Library User Award is awarded on the basis of the following evaluative criteria:

Number of books taken from the library (Text books along with General Reading books will be taken into consideration)
Number of visits by the students will be monitored.
Timely return of books
Participation / Presentation in Library Activities
